Daniel Georges transforms photography into an exploration of presence, perception, and visual relationships. Working with large-scale photographic grids the artist constructs compositions that unfold differently depending on how they are viewed. Up close, each photograph stands as a distinct observation; from a distance, the images merge into carefully orchestrated visual fields where rhythm, balance, and repetition become central to the experience.
The artist frequently photographs himself—not as a traditional self-portrait, but as a recurring visual form. Standing, falling, turning, or simply occupying space, his body functions less as a personal subject than as another element within the composition, he appears alongside of landscapes, natural phenomena, architectural details, and fleeting moments.
Throughout the exhibition, ordinary gestures and familiar places take on unexpected resonance. A silhouetted hand eclipsing the sun, an orchard in different seasons, shifting light, or a sequence of a body in free fall are presented not as isolated moments but as interconnected fragments. Through their placement, these images generate new associations, encouraging viewers to move between individual photographs and the larger composition they collectively create.
The resulting works balance precision with ambiguity. They are formally elegant yet emotionally open, inviting prolonged looking and personal interpretation. The presence of the photographer becomes a stand-in for the viewer as they find their way through the compositions. Rather than offering a fixed narrative, the photographs encourage viewers to discover relationships between image, scale, memory, and perception, revealing how meaning can emerge through accumulation, repetition, and the act of seeing itself.
Daniel Georges is based in Newburgh NY and has worked in Photography since 2017.Previous to 2017 he was based in Brooklyn He studied photography at ICP in NYC, and received his MFA from SVA also in NYC.
